Our Story

Why we made Festive.

Festive began with a simple worry: that our children, growing up [where], would know every Western story by heart and almost none of ours.

We didn't want to hand them a textbook — we wanted to light a spark. The dense, worthy volumes we'd grown up being told to read sat unopened on shelves. What our kids actually loved were stories: bright, warm, a little magical, the kind you ask to hear again before the lights go out.

So we made the kind of first books we wished we'd had.

Exquisitely illustrated, gently told, and designed to open a door rather than cover everything — just enough to make a child ask the next question. Krishna and Hanuman, Diwali and Holi, the wisdom tales and the great epics, brought home for children who live a long way from where these stories were born.

We're starting small, with a limited first edition of four titles. If these stories find the children we made them for, there's much more to come.

Our approach

Made to be loved, and to spark curiosity.

The best first book isn't an encyclopedia — it's one a child asks for again before the lights go out. We choose restraint on purpose: enough wonder to pull them in and spark the next question, never so much detail that the magic drains out. Made to be loved first; the rest follows when they're ready.

Every book lights two lamps.

When you choose Festive, you're not only bringing the stories home for your own child — you're helping put a book and a smile in the hands of an underprivileged child in India. Joy, shared both ways. That's the whole idea.
